PROTEINCHIP PROTEOMICS FOR PROFILING
OF NEUROPSYCHIATRIC DISEASE

Diagnosis of Neuropsychiatric illnesses
relies predominantly on patient interviews and medical history rather than on
laboratory testing. However, there is a need for biomarkers that are
diagnostic, predict course of disease, and stratify patients according to their
likely response to therapeutics. As a first step toward identifying
proteins whose expression levels change in patients with schizophrenia, we have
performed ProteinChip® expression profiling of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
from patients and age-matched controls. Differences in patterns of protein
expression will be described and their potential role in the pathogenesis of
schizophrenia will be discussed.
