THE STANLEY
NEUROVIROLOGY LABORATORY AT
THE JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
The overall goal of the Laboratory is to
develop a training and research program devoted to the
elucidation of the role of infection and immunity in the etiology
of schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. Post-doctoral fellows in
the Stanley Neurovirology Laboratory Fellowship Program will have
the opportunity to receive training and perform research in the
areas of molecular biology directed at studies in these areas.
Studies will be performed in collaboration with faculty members
from different Departments at the Johns Hopkins School of
Medicine. The program will provide stipends based on the
Fellows level of post-graduate training. The program will
also cover the cost of training, research materials,
transportation and health insurance for the post-doctoral
Fellows.
laboratory staff.
The preceptors who are currently
participating in the program, in addition to Dr. Robert Yolken,
Director, are:
- Dr. Christopher
Ross
– Psychiatry/Molecular Genetics - Dr.
Raphael Viscidi
– Molecular Virology - Dr. Noel
Rose
– Neuroimmunology - Dr.
Maree Webster
– Neuropathology - Dr.
Lorraine Brando
– Virology/Cell Culture - Dr. E.
Fuller Torrey
– Psychiatric Epidemiology
All of the preceptors are members of the
faculty of Johns Hopkins except for Drs. Torrey and Webster, who are at the
Stanley Foundation Research Programs in Bethesda, MD.
The specific nature of the research and
training program will be tailored to meet the needs of the
individual fellows. It is expected that some of the Fellows will
spend time in the laboratory of several of the preceptors while
others will want to work with a single preceptor. Research can
cover a wide range of areas provided that the work is directed at
the principal research goals of the laboratory.
The Fellowships will normally be
available for three years, pending satisfactory review at the end
of each year. Longer periods of Fellowship support may be made
available in some cases.
An application may be obtained by writing
or calling the address/phone numbers below. The application will
request three letters of recommendation that will need to be sent
directly to us. As soon as your completed application and the
three letters of recommendation are received, they will be
forwarded to the Stanley Review Committee. The Committee will
meet to determine which applicants they want to interview for the
position. As soon as this occurs you will be contacted by mail.
Completed applications should be sent to:
